How and Why the term “Wi-Fi”
and the Wi-Fi Certification Program Were Created
Steve Bell now living in Reno Nevada, is a Silicon Valley Engineer and Serial Entrepreneur. He founded, financed, and built the Silicon Valley Networking Lab 1998-2003. The Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA) contracted with SVNL to form an 802.11 (Wi-Fi) interoperability testing program in 1998. Steve explains in this interview how the term “Wi-Fi” was created, and why the interoperability certification program evolved.
